Charge Items

What are Charge Items

Charge items are a required piece of information for every single charge.  When you create a charge on an invoice, that charge needs a charge item as much as it needs an amount.  It is a label that serves to identify the reason for the charge and is useful for grouping, or filtering your charges in reports.  For example, you might have a charge item called "Registration fee" which you would use anytime you charge a family a registration fee.  This way, you can run a report to see how much you charged for registration fees this year.

Creating Charge Items

Timesavr auto generates for you a group of sample charge items that you can use, but you can modify this list and add to it if needed.  To see your charge items go to Admin / Finance / Charge Items.   Click "New charge item" to create a new charge item.  When creating a new charge item, keep in mind that the name you give it will be displayed on invoices that you send to your families.

You can modify any of these items by simply overriding the values in the list.  Tab or click out of the field to trigger an update.  When your value is successfully saved, the input border will be temporarily highlighted in green.

Account

The account for the charge is a type of container for charge items, and so multiple different charge items can use the same account.  This used to be an important value when importing transactions into QuickBooks Desktop, but with the increasing popularity of QBO and the lack of benefits to importing data into QuickBooks, the account value may be removed in a future update.  If you're not importing your transactions into QuickBooks Desktop, then the value you select here is irrelevant.
